Did you know that cheddar is non-existent in Japan?

Alright, so i created this bloggy type space weeks ago, and was bracing myself for a huge big update-the-entire-world of my going-ons since leaving Canada. Then i realized that the huge update was never going to come, and that if i didnt just start writing crap, i never would at all. So here you go, i am writing crap. If by some unfortunate accident you missed my huge update emails, and would like them, please just email me and i will send them.

Now, back to my original point. Cheddar cheese does not exist here. At least, i have been looking everywhere, and am yet to see any. It is making me very sad. All the cheese here is odd. White, and goopy, and blah. On a food-related note, after having sworn not to eat anything with visible suckers, i have. And, i even liked it. Last night my host family made takoyaki - octopus balls (like shape, not like testicles) and they were really really good. In fact, i am considering buying my dad a takoyakiki (cooker) as a present. Host Family`s cousin, Yuuka, was telling me that takoyaki parties are called `takopa`. How cute is that? V. cute, thats how.

In other news, my kanji teacher has finally figured out that Alex and I know how to use kanji, which is a relief. She spent the last few classes trying (in vain) to get us to submit to hiragana and katakana worksheets - akin to asking university students to do sheets writing the alphabet over and over. Also, my favourite teacher, Niinomi-sensei, has re-established her incredible humor-osity, which she seems to do everytime i see her. For reasons other than thanksgiving, this weekend was a long weekend, and Niinomi was sick on Friday, making her weekend extra long. Today in class we accused her being sick on purpose. She defended herself by telling us how she was sick all weekend, and how she spent three whole days in bed. .....Alone. Just like that. "*pause* hitori de!" She must have read it off our faces, because we were all thinking it, dirty things that we are. Anyway, we were all on the amused side. Fridays, when we get three hours of class with her, we are always laughing our butts off about something or other.

Now, in closing, i will give you some random things that are short. My ipod headphones suddenly only work on one side. I am distraught. Today i wore the sweater that i knitted for the first time. It was too warm, but i am still so cool that it hurts. As soon as my ankle is normal, i want to start walking around after school. I feel a bit lazy here, and i dont want to get fat. Plus i am eating a lot of junk. Today in the 7/11 i saw a pumpkin kitkat! i must buy one! Jen has updated her blog, and i am amused. Jeremy`s air-turkeys are more entertaining than anything i will be able to come up with, barring an earthquake or something. I want to buy some legwarmers, and high heels, and crazy leggings to go under a mini -- in short i want to make a fool of myself imitating japanese fashion! There are some really crazily dressed people here, especially boys in comparison to NA boys. Also, some of the boys here are tres cute!

There. That should be enough to keep the hounds at bay. If you people want to know anything specific about Japan, please ask. Otherwise i will ramble as if my life depended on it.

Ja ne~

Oh yes, before i forget. About the name. Alex and i had both read that while "gaijin" is rude, "gaijin-san" is less rude - and has more to do with your place in the social structure. However, that does not stop the people here from telling their children that the gaijin-san are dangerous, and they should stay away. So, really it just amounts to Ms. Terrible Foreigner. That is what i amount to here. Of course.. when we hear it we speak loudly about eating babies, so i suppose its alright.

  • I never expected to find any good cheese in Japan short of very specialized shops and paying a small fortune...They aren't really much of a cheese based culture.

I loooove octopus! Though I prefer the Greek ways of cooking it a little more than the Japanese, but that's just my taste. Really it's damn tasty stuff though.

iPod headphones tend to suck...mine are getting a little scratchy sounding, so I think I'll replace them when I can.

What happened to your ankle? I don't remember hearing you got hurt.

And don't go jumping into earthquakes just to top my Air-Turkey story, it's not worth it.

And if you bring me back a pumpkin Kit-Kat I will not only pay you back for it, but love you forever.
